Perang ini terjadi karena adanya kecemburuan sosial antarkelompok, khususnya kelompok-kelompok etnis. Salah satu novel yang dilatarbelakangi oleh peristiwa tersebut adalah novel Allah n?est pas Obligé yang merupakan novel keempat karya salah satu penulis frankofon yang berasal dari Pantai Gading, Ahmadou Kourouma. Novel ini menceritakan petualangan tokoh Birahima selama perang sipil yang terjadi di Afrika Barat, tepatnya di Liberia dan Sierra Leone serta kondisi kehidupan masyarakat Afrika Barat ketika terjadi penindasan yang dilakukan oleh beberapa petinggi negara dan kelompok serdadu anak atau enfants-soldats. Artikel ini membahas politik identitas yang ditampilkan di dalam novel tersebut. Dengan metode kualitatif, penelitian ini menggunakan teori naratif teks Roland Barthes untuk membedah struktur novel serta diperdalam dengan konsep politik identitas milik Kwame Anthony Appiah (2006). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat tiga cara politik identitas yang digunakan di dalam novel sebagai alat untuk mendapatkan kekuasaan dan berpengaruh pada dinamika pergerakan tokoh di dalam novel. Penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa politik identitas di dalam novel ini terjadi dalam dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok antaretnis yang berbeda dan kelompok antaretnis yang sama.
......Civil wars that occurred in West Africa, especially Liberia and Sierra-Leone, took place from 1989 to 1997. These wars occurred because of social jealousy between groups, especially ethnic groups. The identity politics strategy was then used in the war. One of the novels based on this event is the novel Allah n'est pas Obligé which is the fourth novel by one of the francophone writers from Ivory Coast, Ahmadou Kourouma. This novel tells the adventures of the character Birahima while being a child soldier in the civil war that occurred in West Africa, specifically in Liberia and Sierra Leone and tells the living conditions of the people of West Africa when there was a civil war and oppression carried out by several state officials and groups of child soldiers or enfants-soldats. This article discusses the identity politics shown in the novel. With a qualitative method, this study uses Roland Barthes' narrative text theory to dissect the structure of the novel and is deepened by Kwame Anthony Appiah's concept of identity politics (2006). The results show that there are three ways of identity politics that are used in the novel as a tool to gain power and influence the dynamics of the movement of the characters in the novel. This study also reveals that identity politics in this novel occurs in two groups, namely different inter-ethnic groups and the same inter-ethnic group.
