Berbagai usaha telah dilakukan oleh para arsitek untuk menghasilkan suatu referensi berbeda mengenai bentuk dan ekspresi arsitektur. Bentuk pun menjadi suatu yang krusial dan patut untuk ditelusuri bagaimana pencapaiannya, sebagai usaha dalam pencapaian suatu maksud serta esensi suatu desain arsitektur.
Folding pun menjadi salah satu alternatif yang mampu memberikan bentuk-bentuk baru dalam bidang arsitektur. Bentuk ini digunakan menjadi salah satu media berekspresi dan berkomunikasi sebagai perwujudan ide secara tiga dimensional. Folding Architecture berpeluang besar menjadi tren baru, dan memperkenalkan cara mendesain yang menyenangkan serta menyegarkan pikiran perancangnya.
Sebagai metode dalam pencarian bentuk arsitektur, folding berkaitan erat dengan isu kontinuitas, yaitu mengenai keterkaitan suatu bentuk yang dihasilkan dengan elemen pembentuknya, baik secara kontekstual maupun konseptual. Bangunan yang memakai metode folding architecture dalam pencarian bentuknya mengusung bentuk-bentuk baru yang intuitif, sehingga mampu menghasilkan ruang-ruang spontan dan tidak diduga sebelumnya. Bentuk ini pun berusaha memperlihatkan kesesuaiannya terhadap lingkungan tempat terbangunnya.
Namun, apakah metode pencarian bentuk arsitektur ini mampu mendukung pegeksplorasian bentuk dan juga ruang dalam arsitektur? Dan bagaimana hasil penerapannya dalam dunia arsitektur saat ini, baik di Indonesia maupun di luar Indonesia? Skripsi ini adalah sebuah usaha untuk menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan di atas.
Various efforts have been carried out by architects to create different concerns in forms and the architecture expression. Then form became one thing that were crucial and appropriate to be investigated how the achievement is, as an effort in the achievement of an intention as well as the essence of an architectural design.Folding then became one of the alternatives that could give new forms in the architecture field. This form was used as one of expression and communication media as the realization of an idea in a three dimensional manner. Folding Architecture has a big opportunity to be a new trend, by also introducing a design method which is pleasing as well as refreshing the minds of the designers.As a method in the exploration of architectural form, folding is well related to continuity issue, which is concerning the connection of a form that was determined by the forming element, both contextually and conceptually. A building that used folding architecture method in the search for its form carried out new forms which are intuitively, then resulting spontaneous and unexpected spaces like never before. This form then tried to show its compatibility towards the surrounding environment.However, could this method support the exploration of form and space in architecture? And how is the result of its application in the architectural world at this time, both in and outside Indonesia? This thesis will answer questions above.
