This article analyzes some important aspeccts in designing essay writing syllabus as one of the most commanly used from of academic writing at tertiary level of education. Since this article deals with the design of essay writing syllabus for Indonesia undergraduate students of English, the major issues involved are from cultural, structural and linguistic perspective. The analysis of this study designed endeavours to addres to the se problems and attempts to make an improvemnet from the existing writing subject for similar purposes. Therefore, this article proposes the brief proposes the brief outlines of some issues relevant to the design of essay writing syllabus including the approach, process, materials and evalution.
