Skripsi ini membahas mengenai Aya Sofya atau Hagia Sophia, bangunan peninggalan bersejarah Turki yang mengalami transformasi dari gereja menjadi masjid dan hingga kini menjadi museum. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif. Hasil penelitian memaparkan bahwa perubahan fungsi Aya Sofya terjadi seiring pergantian kekuasaan di Istanbul, yakni Aya Sofya sebagai Gereja di masa Byzantium, Masjid di masa Turki Utsmani dan Museum di masa Mustafa Kemal Atat_rk. Perubahan fungsi ini mengantarkan pada perubahan seni arsitektur, baik secara struktur maupun interior, yang mengindikasikan adanya perpaduan budaya antar seni Byzantium, peradaban Islam dan populisme Ataturk.
The Focus of this study is descriptive study about Aya Sofya or Hagia Sophia, a historical building legacy of Turkey, which is transformation experience from church to the mosque and to the museum at present. This research is qualitative descriptive interpretive. This research result that the functional change of Aya Sofya occured due to the changes of commutation reign in Istanbul. Aya Sofya has ever become a church in Byzantine period, was a mosque in Ottoman period and now is a Museum at Mustafa Kemal Ataturk period. This fungtional change has influenced of in architectural changes, especially in structure and interior manner. These changes indicate existences of cultural assimilation between Byzantine art, an Islamic civilization and populism of Atat_rk
