Tingginya angka kematian yang disehabkan oleh penyakit jantung koroner sangat perlu untuk dicermati. Mengingat biaya pengobatan yang semakin mahal, maka pencegahan terhadap terjadinya penyakit mi adalah alternatif lain yang lebih menguntungkan. Menggunakan tanaman obat merupakan pilihan yang terbaik untuk mencegah terjadinya penyakit mi sejak dini. Salah satu tanaman yang diduga berkhasiat adalah biji kenari (Canariurn indicum Linn.). Penelitian mi dilakukan untuk mengetahui efek sari air biji kenari terhadap kadar kolesterol total dan trigliserida tikus putih yang diberi diit tinggi kolesterol. Pada percobaan digunakan 30 (tiga puluh) ekor tikus putih jantan galur Wistar dengan berat badan 150 sampai 200 g dan umur 3 sampai 4 bulan yang dibagi secara acak menjadi lima kelompok. Kelompok pertama diberi diit standar merupakan kontrol normal, kelompok kedua diberi diit campuran kuning telur dan sukrosa 2,5g1200 g bb (berat badan) / hari merupakan kontrol perlakuan. Kelompok ketiga, keempat dan kelima masing-masing diberikan sari air biji kenari dengan dosis: 0,8 g/ 200 g bb / han; 1,6 g / 200 g bb/ han; 3,2 g / 200 g bb / han, serta diit kuning telur dan sukrosa yang sama jumlahnya dengan kelompok kedua. Setelah empat minggu perlakuan, tikus dibedah, darahnya diambil melalui jantung, lalu diukur kadar kolesterol total dan trigliseridanya dengan metoda CHOD-PAP. Dari hasil percobaan didapat bahwa sari air biji kenari dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total clan trigliserida. Pemberian sari air biji kenari yang memberikan hasil penurunan kadar kolesterol total clan trigliserida terbesar adalah dosis 3,2 g1200 g bb / han, tetapi dosis mi menyebabkan hipolipidemia. Maka dosis terbaik dimana terjadi penurunan kadar kolesterol total dan trigliserida secara sangat bermakna tanpa menyebabkan hipolipidemia diberikan oleh kelompok dosis 1,6 g / 200 g bb / han.

The high number of mortality which caused by the coroner heart disease is very need to be observed. Because the cost to cure is very expensive, preventive action for this disease is the advantageus alternative. Using herb medicine is the best choice to prevent this disease from the early time, one of the plant that can be used to cure is canary seed( Canarium indicum Linn.). The aim of this observation is to find out the effect of the canary seed juice to the total cholesterol and triglyceride rate of white rats which have been given high cholesterol diet. The observation have used 30 (thirty) male wistar white rats with 150 to 200 g of weight and 3 to 4 months of age, which has been devided into five group randomly. First group were given standard diet which a normal control, second group were given mixture of yolk and sucrose diet 2,5 g I 200 g bw (body weight) I day as a treatment control. For third group, fourth and fifth group, each of them were given canary seed juice with: 0,8 g / 200 g bw / day ; 1,6 g / 200 g bw / day; 3,2 g / 200 g bw / day dosage, yolk and sucrose diet in the same quantity with the second group. After four weeks of treatment, the rats have been surgeried, the blood was taken from the heart, and then total cholesterol and triglyceride rate measured by CHOD-PAP method. From the observation we can prove that canary seed juice can decrease the total cholesterol and triglyceride rate. The highest result for decreasing total cholesterol and triglyceride rate by giving canary seed juice 3,2 g / 200 g bw / day dosage, but this dosage could causing hypolipidemic. The best result was given by group of rats were given 1,6 g / 200 g bw / day dosage of the canary seed juice which can decrease total cholesterol and triglyceride rate without causing hypolipidemic.
