Kebijakan privatisasi BUMN semakin menjadi bagian penting dari kebijakan ekonomi pemerintah, sebagai langkah untuk mengurangi intervensi pemerintah dalam bidang ekonomi yang seharusnya dilaksanakan oleh swasta. Privatisasi diharapkan dapat meningkatkan daya saing dan efisiensi perusahaan yang selanjutnya mendukung pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia. Namun, privatisasi yang dilakukan pemerintah saat ini hanya untuk tujuan jangka pendek yaitu untuk menutup defisit APBN, karena sektor-sektor penerimaan dan pembiayaan lainnya tidak mencukupi dalam keseimbangan anggaran yang telah ditetapkan. Tetapi satu-satunya cara untuk menyelamatkan BUMN adalah dengan privatisasi, walaupun privatisasi itu sendiri mendatangkan pro dan kontra. BUMN yang dipegang oleh pemerintah seringkali tidak efisien dan seringkali diwarnai dengan praktek korupsi dan kolusi, BUMN seperti ini menjadi beban pemerintah yang harus selalu memberikan subsidi untuk BUMN yang tidak sehat. Swasta dianggap lebih efisien dan profesional dalam menangani bisnis, karena itu privatisasi BUMN menjadi salah satu kebijakan pemerintah sekarang. Melalui privatisasi di sektor telekomunikasi, diharapkan terjadi persaingan yang kompetitif antar pemain, guna memberikan layanan yang terbaik dan harga yang kompetitif. Karena dalam hal yang mengetahui selera pasarlah yang akan bertahan dalam persaingan ini. Namun, peran pemerintah sangat diperlukan sebagai regulator, sehingga setiap pemain, dapat bermain dengan sehat dan tidak mengambil keuntungan dengan tarif yang murah tanpa disertai pelayanan yang baik. Akhirnya untuk masa mendatang, privatisasi akan terus dilakukan pemerintah sebagai jawaban persaingan global telekomunikasi.

The policy of privatization of State-Own Enterprise (Badan Usaha Milik Negara/BUMN) has become an important aspect of the government's economic policy, the one that genuinely supposed to be the realm of private sector. Privatization is expected to be able to enhance the competitiveness as well as efficiency of the companies in Indonesia, which eventually will lead to the Country's economic growth. However, it is noteworthy that the privatization policy being implemented currently by the government is merely a short-term oriented privatization program, primarily meant to cover up the deficit account, due to the insufficiency of the government income and other financing budget to make expected balance. Despite, the controversy surrounding the policy, privatization is the only way to save those State-Owned Enterprises.

A company managed purely by the government usually is not efficient and corruption and collution-infested, which will be a burden for the government that is obliged to always subsidize that unhealthy state's enterprises. Contrary, the privat sector is considered as more efficient and professional in handling a business, the reason of which privatization in the telecommunication sector, it is expected that competitive competition will accur among the players, which hopefully will bring the customers with the best price and service, since under this system, only those who really understand the market that will make the first position. Nevertheless, government's role also is hoped to be implemented here, that is, as a regulator, to ensure that respective player keep playing in line with regulation (healthy) and doesn't take too much profit by dropping the tariff while neglecting the service quality. Finally, for the coming future, the policy of privatization will be kept conducted by the government as its response to the global telecommunication competition.
