ABSTRAK Karena berbagai masalah sosial dan ekonomi, penduduk Kotobuki menjadi kelompok marginal dalam masyarakat Jepang. Perbedaan kondisi antara penduduk Kotobuki dan masyarakat Jepang pada umumnya membuat para borantia yang pada dasarnya berasal dari luar Kotobuki perlu melakukan penyesuaian-penyesuaian dalam melakukan aktivitas borantia-nya di Kotobuki. Skripsi ini membahas pengertian borantia, kondisi geografi dan sejarah Kotobuki, komunitas borantia di Kotobuki dan analisis mengenai cara adaptasi yang ditempuh oleh borantia dalam menyesuaikan kegiatan borantia-nya terhadap kondisi sosial-ekonomi penduduk Kotobuki.

ABSTRACT Because of social and economic obstacles, Kotobuki residents are 'marginal' members of Japanese society. Different condition betwen Kotobuki resident and the rest of Japanese society cause volunteers who come from rest of Japanese society need to make some adaptation during their voluntering in Kotobuki. This Thesis will discuss about definition of borantia, geography and history of Kotobuki, borantia community in Kotobuki and analyses various ways that volunteers should be do to adapt their activity with social-economic condition of Kotobuki resident.
