Failures of magnesia-chrome refractory at Peirce Smith Converter caused unstable production process. This research was carried out to find failures factor by determined shell temperatures distribution, thickness of refractories consumption and testing of converter slag samples Final result of this research have indicated that refractories failure was caused by non any form of silica flux and scraps that was influenced by feed chutes design that didn?t work optimally to distribute silica flux and scrap good than it made high local temperature in converter increased Redesign chute have done to make balance of silica flax, scrap adding and operating temperatures distribution than be hoped it able to increase the lifetime of refractory.
