Penelitian ini membahas mengenai gaya hidup masyarakat Batavia pada masa depresi ekonomi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Dalam pembahasan dipaparkan mengenai beberapa gaya hidup masyarakat Eropa ketika Depresi Ekonomi melanda. Dilihat pula tinjauan pemerintah Hindia-Belanda dalam upaya menanggulangi krisis ekonomi dunia (1930-an). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan mengenai gaya hidup masyarakat Eropa di Batavia ketika depresi ekonomi. Pemaparan akan gaya hidup dapat dilihat dari segi pakaian, aktivitas keseharian, serta perkembangan teknologi dan transportasi masyarakat. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa masyarakat Eropa di Batavia dari sisi gaya hidup mencoba menampakan diri tetap dapat beradaptasi serta menjalankan kesehariannya seperti biasa meski Depresi Ekonomi sedang melanda. Penulis berharap penelitian ini dapat memberikan warna baru bagi penulisan sejarah.

This research tries to explain about the lifestyle of Batavia at the time of economic depression. In this paper presented on the lifestyle of some of Europe when the Depression hit. Seen also review the Dutch East Indies government in an effort to tackle the world economic crisis (1930s). The purpose of this study was to describe the lifestyle of the European society in Batavia, when the Economic Depression time. Exposition of lifestyle can be seen in terms of clothing, daily activities, as well as technology development and public transportation. The results of this study is that the European community in terms of lifestyle Batavia tried appeared to still be able to adapt and run daily as usual despite being plagued Depression. The Author hopes of this research may provide a new color for the writing of history.
