Indikasi geografis adalah salah satu Hak Kekayaan Intelektual yang memberikan perlindungan bagi produk dengan kualitas, karakteristik atau reputasi yang berkaitan dengan wilayah asal produk tersebut. Kopi arabika yang berasal dari Toraja memiliki kualitas yang berbeda dari kopi jenis lainnya sehingga memiliki reputasi sebagai salah satu kopi terbaik dunia. Merek kopi "TORAJA" menimbulkan kebingungan bagi konsumen terhadap asal kopinya. Reputasi kopi arabika Toraja terancam apabila kopi tersebut tidak berasal dari Toraja serta kualitas berbeda dari kopi arabika Toraja. Untuk melindungi reputasi dan masyarakat penghasil kopi arabika Toraja serta maka perlu pendaftaran indikasi geografis atas kopi arabika Toraja.

Geographical Indication is one of the Intellectual Property Rights that offers protection for products with qualities, characteristics, or reputation dealing with the region where they are originally from. Arabica coffee, which is native to Toraja, possesses different qualities compared to other kinds of coffee so that it gains a reputation as one of the best coffees in the world. "TORAJA" brand, however, confuses consumers towards its originality. The reputation of arabica coffee will be threatened if such coffee are not originally from and its quality is different from Toraja coffee. To protect Torajan arabica reputation and coffee producers, there is a necessity for geographical indication registration upon this Torajan arabica coffee.
