Kehadiran PKL saat ini telah menjadi bagian dari kehidupan masyarakat perkotaan. mereka hadir dengan menguasai ruang ruang publik sebagai respon terhadap permintaan pasar. Dibalik eksistensi PKL, terdapat persoalan lebih dari sekedar penguasaan ruang fisik. PKL menjalin hubungan dengan aktor lainnya dan membentuk jejaring ekonomi informal. pada studi kasus Jalan Babakan Raya terjadi transformasi penguasaan ruang PKL yang dinamis. Kondisi ini menimbulkan pertanyaanapa yang adadibenakparaaktordalamjejaringekonomi informal dalammeruangnya PKL, danmelanggengkaneksistensinya??Metoda yang dipilih adalah grounded research artinya riset dilakukan dengan berjalan di level paling ?mendasar?, dalam pengertian bahwa proses investigasi dijalankan tanpa suatu praduga apapun (hipotesis).Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap habitus, yakni, respon spasial PKL dan para aktor dalam jejaring ekonomi informal.Temuan dilapangan menunjukan dalam upayanya meruang dan melanggengkan eksistensinya, PKL disokong oleh keberadaan aktor lain dalam jejaring ekonomi informal. Mereka juga membentuk kelopok-kelompok kecil sebagai jalinan strategi-taktik agar mereka mendapatkan posisi tawar untuk bernegosiasi dengan preman. Bentuk respon terhadap perubahan kondisi sosial ini merupakan upaya untuk PKL mempertahankan diri dan melangengkan eksistensinya.

The method chosen was grounded research. Its means research done on the level of the 'fundamental' in the sense that the investigation carried out without any prejudice to any (hypothetical). The main focus of this study is to reveal the habitus PKL spatial response and the other actors in the networks informal economy.

The findings indicate the field in an attempt to occupying the space and perpetuate its existence, PKL supported by the presence of other actors in the networks of informal economy. They also formed small groups as tangle strategy and tactics to get their bargaining position to negotiate with thugs. In response to changing social conditions is an effort to defend theirselves and perpetuate the PKL existence.
