Penelitian ini menganalisis karakteristik interaksi antarkota di Indonesia melalui pendekatan pengangkutan udara untuk penumpang dan kargo pada tahun 2008-2011. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan model gravitasi, ditemukan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara pengangkutan udara antarkota dengan besaran Produk Domestik Regional Bruto, populasi, struktur ekonomi, interaksi antar kota utama dan dan terdapat hubungan terbalik dengan jarak sebagai proksi penghambat interaksi. Adapun pengaruh beberapa kota utama memberikan hasil yang berbeda di masing-masing estimasi. Pemisahan analisis untuk wilayah Indonesia Barat, Indonesia Timur dan antarwilayah Indonesia menemukan bahwa pengangkutan udara untuk masing-masing wilayah memiliki karakteristik tersendiri.

This study analyzes the characteristics of the domestic intercity interaction of Indonesia?s passenger and cargo air transport in 2008-2011. By using the gravity model approach, it is found that there are positive correlations between the intensity of intercity air transportation with Gross Domestic Regional Product, population, economic structure and interaction between the hubs. It is also shown that there is an inverse relationship of distance as a proxy inhibitor for interaction. The influence of several major cities provides different results in each estimation. Segregated analysis were done for interaction in western region, eastern region and between the two regions in Indonesia. The analysis provides clear evidence of unique characteristics for each region.
