Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis tingkat profesionalisme pengawas SMP berdasarkan persepsi para kepala SMP di Kabupaten Sanggau Kalimantan Barat. Persepsi kepala SMP tersebut didasarkan pada penguasaan enam kompetensi pengawas yaitu kompetensi-kompetensi kepribadian, sosial, supervisi manajerial, supervisi akademik, evaluasi pendidikan serta penelitian dan pengembangan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum profesionalisme pengawas SMP di Kabupaten Sanggau berada pada kategori baik. Namun secara individu masih ada satu orang pengawas SMP yang termasuk dalam kategori kurang. Dilihat dari jenis kompetensi yang harus dikuasai oleh pengawas SMP, dari enam kompetensi tersebut terdapat satu kompetensi yang kurang dikuasai, yaitu kompetensi penelitian dan pengembangan.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of professionalism of the Junior High School Superintendents? based on the perception of the Principals in the District of West Kalimantan. Perception of the principals are based on the sixth competency mastery of the superintendents, those are personality, social, managerial supervision, academic supervision, education evaluation, and research and development. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative.

The results show that overall the Superintendents?professionalism in the district are good. But there remains one Junior High School Superintendent is included in the category of less. Judging from the types of competencies that must be mastered by Junior High School Superintendents, the competency that is less mastered namely research and development competencies.
