ABSTRAK Tesis ini mencoba untuk memahami produksi ruang kawasan Benteng Somba Opu(BSO) dalam bingkai kajian arkeologi kontekstual. Sebagai sebuah kawasan yangmengandung tinggalan arkeologi berupa struktur BSO, produksi ruang yang terjadidi kawasan tersebut dianggap bisa menceritakan hubungan antara masyarakatdengan kebudayaan materi di Sulawesi Selatan, karena BSO adalah bagian pentingdari narasi sejarah kebudayaan di Sulawesi Selatan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitianyang menerapkan Fenomenologi-Hermeneutik dari Paul Ricoeur, diketahui bahwaakumulasi dari produksi ruang di kawasan BSO telah menciptakan sebuah lanskapbersejarah yang bernuansa pascamodern. Akan tetapi, ideologi kapitalisme yangmempengaruhi relasi kekuasaan pada momen produksi yang ketiga, membuatpascamodernitas dalam kawasan BSO lebih sebagai utopia.

ABSTRACT This thesis is trying to understand the spatial production of The Somba Opu Fortress(SOF) Site in the frame of contextual archaeology. As a site where archaeologicalremains in the form of The SOF structure found, the spatial productions which hadbeen taken place in this site are presumed to be able to reveal the relationshipbetween society and material cultures in South Sulawesi, since SOF is an importantpart of cultural historical narratives of South Sulawesi. Based on the result of thisresearch which applied Paul Ricoeur’s Phenomenological-Hermeneutics, it isknown that the accumulation of spatial production of the SOF site has create ahistorical landscape in a postmodern sense. However, the ideology of capitalismwhich determine the third moment of production, has turn the postmodernity in theSOF site merely as a utopia.
