[ABSTRAK
Pada saat seorang suami menderita suatu penyakit, maka istrinyalah yang akan berperan sebagai primary caregiver (Magai, 1996). Sebagai spouse caregiver, seorang istri lebih berisiko untuk mengalami caregiver strain, dimana strain yang dapat ia rasakan adalah akibat dari permasalahan fisik, emosional, kognitif atau sosial yang dialami oleh suaminya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasional yang
bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara caregiver strain dan kepuasan pernikahan pada istri yang berperan sebagai spouse caregiver dari penderita stroke. Caregiver strain merupakan persepsi atau perasaan kesulitan atas tugas dan tanggung jawab dalam memenuhi peran sebagai caregiver (Oncology Nursing Society, 2008;
Factor & Weiner, 2008). Kepuasan pernikahan didefinisikan sebagai sikap sejauh mana seseorang menilai hubungan pernikahannya menyenangkan (Roach, Frazier & Bowden, 1981). Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah The Modified Caregiver Strain Index (MCSI) yang dikembangkan oleh Robinson pada tahun 1983
dan telah dimodifikasi oleh Thornton & Travis pada tahun 2003 serta Marital Satisfaction Scale yang dikembangkan oleh Roach, Frazier & Bowden pada tahun 1981. Partisipan yang dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 30 orang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara caregiver strain dan kepuasan pernikahan pada istri sebagai spouse caregiver dari
penderita stroke
ABSTRAK
When a husband suffering from an illness, then his wife will serve as the primary
caregiver (Magai, 1996). As spouse caregiver, a wife is more at risk for experiencing
caregiver strain, where she can feel the strain as the result of physical, emotional,
cognitive or social development problem experienced by her husband. This study is a
correlational study aimed to determine the relationship between caregiver strain and
marital satisfaction among wives as spouse caregiver of stroke patients. Caregiver
strain is a perception or a feeling of difficulty on the task and responsibility in
fulfilling the role as caregiver (Oncology Nursing Society, 2008; Factor & Weiner,
2008). Marital satisfaction is defined as attitude of greater or lesser favorability
toward one’s own marital relationship (Roach, Frazier & Bowden, 1981). Instrument
which used in this study are The Modified Caregiver Strain Index (MCSI) developed
by Robinson in 1983 and has been modified by Thornton & Travis in 2003 and
Marital Satisfaction Scale developed by Roach, Frazier & Bowden in 1981.
Participants who were included in this study is 30 people. The results showed that
there is no significant relationship between caregiver strain and marital satisfaction
