Skripsi ini membahas pemindahan penduduk Jawa ke Metro Lampung pada periode 1935-1950. Berdasarkan hasil penghitungan yang diadakan pada tahun 1900 jumlah penduduk di Pulau Jawa pada saat itu sudah mencapai 28 juta jiwa, Sementara itu hasil sensus penduduk yang dilakukan pada tahun 1905 memperlihatkan bahwa sebanyak 30,1 juta jiwa tinggal di Pulau Jawa dan hanya 7,5 juta jiwa yang bermukim di luar Pulau Jawa. Oleh karenanya pemerintah kolonial Hindia Belanda yang berkuasa pada saat itu menyelenggarakan program kolonisasi, yakni suatu tindakan untuk menempatkan petani-petani Jawa yang berasal dari desa-desa di daerah-daerah yang padat di Pulau Jawa ke daerah-daerah yang masih jarang penduduknya dan belum tergarap lahan pertaniannya di luar Pulau Jawa. Salah satunya adalah Kota Metro yang terletak di Lampung. Selain sebagai tindak lanjut dari Politik Etis yang dicanangkan. Program kolonisasi ini juga bertujuan memenuhi kebutuhan tenaga kerja yang besar dari perkebunan-perkebunan milik Belanda, dan mengurangi kepadatan penduduk di Pulau Jawa. Akan tetapi dampaknya sendiri menimbulkan perubahan yang signifikan dari berbagai aspek kehidupan di daerah tujuan.

This essay discusses the relocation of Javanese peoples to Metro Lampung in the period 1935-1950. Based on a calculation which was held in the year 1900 the population of the island of Java at the time had reached 28 million people, while the results of the population census conducted in 1905 showed that a total of 30.1 million people live on the island of Java and only 7.5 million peoples who reside outside the island of Java. Therefore the Dutch East Indies colonial government in power at that time arrangeed colonization program, which is an action to move the Javanese native farmers from crowded villages populattion counties on the island of Java to areas that are sparsely populated and undeveloped agricultural land outside the island of Java. One of these area are Metro City that located in Lampung. In addition as a follow up to the proclaimed Ethical Politics, colonization program also aims to meet the needs of a large workforce from plantation-estate owned Dutch, and reducing the density of population on the island of Java. But the impact itself poses a significant change from the various aspects of life in the destination county.
