[ABSTRAK
Perkembangan pembangunan di Indonesia pada masa kini dapat terbilangmasih tidak terlalu mengandalkan jasa arsitek, khususnya dalam membangunhunian. Profesi arsitek sebagai pemberi jasa belum dapat dijangkau oleh beberapalapisan masyarakat. Dengan ?ketidakterjangkauan? arsitek menyebabkanmaraknya pembangunan hunian secara swadaya oleh masyarakat. Kebutuhandasar, ekonomi, material, konstruksi, sosial, budaya dan kepercayaan (Religi)mempengaruhi terbentuknya sebuah hunian. Masyarakat tanpa latar belakangpendidikan arsitektur membangun berdasarkan pengetahuan empiris, yangdimaksud adalah berdasarkan pengalaman dan juga tradisi atau pengajaraninformal. Tulisan ini mencoba menganalisis bagaimana proses perancangan padahunian swadaya yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat dan hal apa saja yangmempengaruhinya.
