[Arek Suroboyo adalah salah satu kelompok sosial yang berada di Blok M. Mereka
mendominasi wilayah-wilayah di Blok M, sejak tahun 70 an hingga sekarang.
Identitas sosial Arek Suroboyo yang mereka miliki merupakan suatu hal yang
sangat penting bagi mereka memenuhi kebutuhan mereka dengan cara
menjalankan kegiatan-kegiatan ekonomi informal yang diantaranya, dalam
penelitian ini berupa juru parkir di perparkiran Pemda DKI dan profesi preman.
Selain itu identitas sosial ini diakftifkan ketika mereka harus mempertahankan diri
dari pihak yang mengganggu kegiatan ekonomi mereka, ataupun eksistensi
mereka di Blok M. Jumlah mereka berkurang pada masa sekarang karena banyak
di antara mereka yang beranjak tua, dan beberapa ada yang meninggal dunia
karena sakit, tetapi hanya sedikit dari keturunan mereka di Jakarta yang
menggantikan perannya di Blok M. Penelitian ini juga menggambarkan
bagaimana kehidupan sosial Arek Suroboyo di Blok M pada masa sekarang.
Dalam penelitian ini saya menggunakan metode kualitatif yang didukung dengan
metode wawancara mendalam dan pengamatan.;The Arek Suroboyo is a social group in Blok M. They have a history of becoming

Suroboyo is really important to them to fulfill their daily needs by working on the

defending themselves from their rival groups, which interrupt their daily activities
on the informal sector. At presents, their numbers have been decreasing by the
time being because there has been no regeneration within their rank these recent

M today in ethnographic writing. I applied qualitative method, namely in-depth
