Adele hadir dan sukses di industri musik dengan kualitas kemampuannya sebagai penyanyi, penulis lagu, dan hits-maker. Namun, dalam bingkai industri hiburan, penampilan fisik menjadi elemen yang turut serta berperan sebagai penunjang kesuksesan artis. Perihal penampilan fisiknya, kontroversi datang dari industri fashion, dalam hal ini seorang perancang busana dan majalah fashion yang mengekspresikan penolakannya terhadap bentuk badan Adele. Kemudian, penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa perspektif warna hitam yang dipakai Adele tidak hanya sekadar sebagai karakter atau identitasnya di industri hiburan, tetapi juga sebagai bentuk kontrol Adele atas tubuhnya sendiri yang tidak ingin diobjektifikasi. Terkait gambaran penampilan fisik Adele yang dilakukan oleh media massa, penelitian ini fokus pada bagaimana Adele ditampilkan dan tubuhnya digambarkan oleh Vogue dan Elle melalui analisis cover dan artikel kedua majalah fashion tersebut. Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa wacana atau isu tubuh yang ditampilkan oleh Adele dari unsur-unsur dan dinamika penampilan fisiknya, serta melakukan suatu perbandingan konstruksi tubuh Adele yang direpresentasikan oleh Vogue dan Elle.

Adele is a successful woman pop singer with her quality of music performance as a singer, song-writer, and hits-maker in the music industry. However, in the frame of entertainment industry, physical appearance becomes an element supporting the success of the artist. In term of Adele?s physical appearance, controversy comes from fashion industry, in this case a fashion designer and fashion magazines that express their rejection of Adele?s body shape. Then, this study also finds that perspective of the color black wore by Adele is not only as her character or identity in entertainment industry, but also as her control of her own body that does not want to be objectified. Regarding the depiction of Adele?s physical performance done by mass media, this study is focused on how Adele is performed and her body is depicted by Vogue and Elle through cover and article analysis of those two fashion magazines. However, this study is aimed to analyze such a body issue performed by Adele through the elements and dynamic of her physical performance, and to do a comparison between the construction of Adele?s body represented by Vogue and Elle.
