ABSTRAKTesis ini menganalisis konstruksi identitas perempuan Islam dalam Hijabers Community. Tesis ini mempertanyakan konstruksi identitas perempuan Islam yang direpresentasikan dalam Hijabers Community, dan bagaimana anggota komunitas merespon konstruksi tersebut. Pemerolehan data dilakukan melalui pendekatan etnografi dengan wawancara mendalam kepada komite dan anggota Hijabers Community, dan observasi kegiatan komunitas. Tesis ini menggunakan konsep identitas dan representasi identitas oleh Stuart Hall (1990, 1996, dan 1997). Hasil analisis tesis ini menunjukkan adanya negosiasi antara nilai-nilai kesederhanaan (modesty) dan kemodernan gaya hidup urban (sophisticated) terhadap konstruksi identitas perempuan Muslim dalam Hijabers Community.;
ABSTRACTThis thesis analyses the construction of Indonesian Muslim women?s identity in Hijabers Community. It questions the construction of Muslim women?s identity represented by Hijabers Community and how its members react towards the construction of identity. This thesis uses ethnography approach with observation and depth-interview with the committees and members of Hijabers Community. This thesis deploys the concept of identity and the representation of identity by Stuart Hall (1990, 1996, and 1997).
