Authority is a multi-disciplinary concept that has been the basic feature that differs the state from other political entities. This distinction, further, positions states as main actor in international politics who are able to exercise legitimized violence, while other political entities are forbidden to exercise such measure without the required authorization from states. This paper exhibits that the concept of authority that has been developed in the study of International Relations relatively influenced by Weberian definition of authority which, to some extent, posess state-centric bias with features including territoriality, violence, and other public symbols so that the violent measures the states exercised are deemed as criminal act or struggle for political entitites to pursue statehood.
