Kreativitas manusia yang tidak mengenal batas telah melahirkan fenomena baru yang merambah dunia musik, yaitu cover version terhadap lagu. Pencipta maupun pemegang hak cipta memiliki hak ekslusif atas suatu lagu ciptaan. Oleh karena itu, apabila terdapat pihak-pihak yang ingin mengkomersialisasikan lagu tersebut dengan membuat cover version, pihak tersebut membutuhkan izin atau lisensi dari pencipta atau pemegang hak cipta. Dengan metode studi pustaka, skripsi ini membahas mengenai lisensi apa saja yang dibutuhkan agar suatu cover version terhadap lagu yang dikomersialisasikan tidak menjadi pelanggaran hak cipta. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa cover version terhadap lagu yang dikomersialisasikan tidak akan melanggar hak cipta apabila terdapat lisensi atas hak mekanikal, hak mengumumkan, atau hak sinkronisasi, dimana pemenuhan lisensi tersebut tergantung dari bentuk cover version yang dilakukan.

Human unlimited creativity has lead to a new phenomenon that comes into music industry, namely the cover version of songs. The author or copyright owner has the exclusive right over his work. Therefore, if there is anyone who wants to commercialize a song by making a cover version of it, that party needs the permission or license from the author of the work or from the copyright owner. Using the method of literature study, this thesis discusses about which licenses are needed so that commercialized cover version of songs will not be a copyright infringement. The research concluded that a commercialized cover version of song would not be a copyright infringement if there were a mechanical license, a performing license, or a synchronization license, in which the fulfillment of the license depends on the form of the cover version made by the party concerned.
