Skripsi ini membahas mengenai indigenisasi yang terjadi di dalam lembaga HKBP (Huria Kristen Batak Protestan) sebagai salah satu gereja etnis di Indonesia. Penyebaran agama Kristen ke Tanah Batak sejak tahun 1824 baru mengalami keberhasilan ketika missionaris dari zending RMG (Rheinische Missionsgesellschaft) datang. Missionaris RMG tersebut bergerak dengan nama Batakmission, dengan Ludwig Ingwer Nommensen sebagai tokoh sentral. Seiring perkembangan waktu, jemaat mulai menuntut posisi sebagai pemimpin gereja. Penolakan misionaris RMG menyebabkan lahirnya HKB (Hatopan Kristen Batak) yang mempelopori lahirnya HChB (Huria Christen Batak), yang merupakan gereja pertama yang berdiri di luar naungan zending. Ditangkapnya orang Jerman yang ada di Hindia Belanda akibat pendudukan Jerman atas Belanda di perang Dunia ke dua membuat HKBP memilih Kasianus Sirait sebagai ephorus Batak pertama. Selanjutnya, HKBP masih harus menghadapi BNZ (Batak Nias Zending) yang menguasai aset RMG dan baru selesai ketika kedatangan Jepang ke Hindia Belanda.

This undergraduate thesis discusses about the indigenization that occured in the HKBP (Huria Kristen Batak Protestan), i.e. a prominent ethnic church in Indonesia. The Christianity in Batak land began in 1824 and succeeded with the works of RMG (Rheinische Missionsgesellschaft). They institutionalized it as Batakmission, in which Ludwig Ingwer Nommensen played a central figure. Over the years, the church demanded a higher position as a top leader of the church, that was refused by the RMG.It led to the birth of HKB (Hatopan Kristen Batak) as the organization of Christian Bataks. Fulfilling their wishes, they formed the HChB (Huria Christen Batak), which would be considered as the first church that arised without the involvement of the zending, that transformed the Batakmission as HKBP in 1929. In the 1930s a unexpected but conducive event, the initial WW II came up that caused the arrest of the Germans in Indonesia, included the Germans leaders of HKBP. The situation encouraged the congregation to elect Kasianus Sirait, the Batak born priest, as the first HKBP or the Ephorus. Later, HKBP still had to deal with BNZ (Batak Nias Zending) to take over the control of RMG assets, and the process completed when Japan arrived to Indonesia.
