[ABSTRAK
Tesis ini merupakan studi yang memfokuskan pada gigs musik yang diadakan di kafe dan bar Kota DKI Jakarta dan Kota Bandung. Hasil studi ini menunjukkan gigs mengalami penurunan karena terkendala krisis ruang, harga sewa tempat mahal dan sulitnya perizinan. Padahal, kafe dan bar memainkan peran penting bagi gigs dalam mendukung perkembangan musik di perkotaan, menjadi penghubung antara para penggiat gigs (performan, gigs organizer, komunitas)dengan khayalak umum untuk mempopulerkan skena musik mereka. Penurunan ini ditambah adanya anggapan gigs hanya sebagai hiburan dan tontonan, bukan investasi budaya yang bisa diakomodir dan dikembangkan. Perlu ada strategi untuk melakukan pembaharuan dalam segala kegiatan acara, termasuk meningkatkan performance dan kualitas penggiatnya yang aktif bergerak di skena musik. Kemudian, bagi komunitas atau gigs organizer agar dapat mengeksplorasialternatif tempat-tempat baru yang bisa digunakan untuk gigs.;

ABSTRACT
This thesis focuses on gigs music at cafes and bars in Jakarta and Bandung. The results of this study show that there is a number of gigs has declined due to the limitation of space, expensive rental price, and facing permit obstacles. Whereas, cafes and bars play an important role for gigs to support music development in urban areas, as a conduit between gigs?s players (performer, gigs organizer, community) with society to popularize their music scene. The decline is caused by contention that gigs are simply seen as an entertainment and a spectacle, not a cultural investment that could be used to please and entertain the people. We need a strategy to carry on renewal in every event activities, including improving the quality and gigs players?s performance in music scene.
