Feminisme dan hak perempuan merupakan isu yang masuk ke Jepang pada awal abad 20. Pada masa ini perempuanhidup dibawah bayang-bayang laki-laki. Hal ini menjadi latar belakang kebangkitan gerakan feminisme di Jepangpada tahun 1868. Status perempuan Jepang pada masa sekarang, tidak lepas dari perjuangan para feminis yangmenyuarakan perubahan pada Jaman Meiji. Salah satu feminis Jepang yang terkenal dan pelopor feminisme diJepang adalah Hiratsuka Raicho. Ia dikenal sebagai aktivis yang berani menantang norma yang berlaku di Jepang, tentang dominasi laki-laki. Salah satu pemikiran feminismenya adalah perempuan tidak terlahir untuk melayani lakilaki.Ia juga berpendapat bahwa perempuan dan laki-laki seharusnya dipandang sebagai individu yang sama, dantidak saling mendominasi. Berdasarkan tulisan ini, diharapkan pembaca memahami kebangkitan gerakan feminismedi Jepang yang dipelopori oleh Hiratsuka Raicho. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metodekepustakaan dengan pengumpulan data sekunder. Selanjutnya, kesimpulan ditarik berdasarkan data sekunder yang terkumpul.

Feminism and women's rights are issues which come to Japan in the early 20th century. In this period, women lived under the shadow of men. This is the background to the rise of the Japanese feminism movement in 1868. Japanesewomen's status in the present cannot be separated from the struggle of feminists who voiced a change in the Meiji era. One of the famous Japanese feminists and feminist pioneer in Japan is Hiratsuka Raicho. She is known as anactivist who dared to challenge the norm in Japan, about men dominance. One of her feminism thought were women not born to serve men. She also argued that women and men should be regarded as the same individual, and notdominate one to another. According to this article, the reader would understand the rise of the feminist movement inJapan by Hiratsuka Raicho.
