Batu Islands are rich for archaeological potentials, relevant to the varied ethnicity. Nias ethnic, one the ethnics inhabiting Batu Islands, has drawn several intriguing questions on how they used to treat the dead and what relevance the funeral ceremony rites had with those practiced in Southern Nias where Nias Ethnic inhabiting Batu Islands originated. This researched is a direct observation survey supported by interviews whose data analysis is through library studies and comparative studies by comparing research objects found with those of Nias island and other cultures in Indonesia. Some data acquired in this research, such Nias ancient tombs in Hayo Island, Tanah Masa, Sigata, Memong, Marit, and Biang, generally described how Nias ethnic inhabiting Batu Islands practiced a mixed open primary and secondary funeral system using wooden coffins without burial. Such funeral system by Nias ethnic in Batu islands was found to bear similarities with that of Southearn Nias. Thus, it can be concluded that generally Nias ethnic in Batu Islands still practiced the same funeral tradition as the place of origin did.
