Empirical analysis has been made with three coastal urban centres in Queensland, by deriving estimated exponential urban density functions which emphasise the significance of the distance of the distance from the Central Business District of each urban centre. Temporal comparisons were carried out by urban centres and significant impications were drawn in connection with the degree of urbanization process as well as with the age of maturity of urban centres. Population projections for the selected urban centres were made for the year 1990 based on cross-section and time-series approaches.
