 Abstract

Induction motor is widely used in human life. It is very useful not only for households but also for industrial areas. Therefore, efficiency of the induction motor is very important to be analyzed in order to optimize its performance. Load and temperature are two of many factors which are influencing the efficiency of the induction motor. Load variation in the induction motor will yield various levels of efficiency which is considered as load characteristic. Every area in this world has different levels of temperature one another which yield different efficiency characteristics, and Indonesia as a tropical country has its typical range of temperature. By obtaining that load characteristic at different levels of temperature in tropical areas, we can truly see the influence of load and temperature to the efficiency of three phase induction motor and know the appropriate level of load and temperature to run the induction motor efficiently.
The polynomial equations of ambient temperature versus efficiency are:
- y = 0.001x2 - 0.166x + 27.61 (R² = 0.990) at load = 1 Nm (16.67%)
- y = 0.000x2 - 0.030x + 55.47 (R² = 0.989) at load = 3 Nm (50%)
- y = -0.000x2 - 0.044x + 68.89 (R² = 0.984) at load = 5 Nm (83.33%)
The polynomial equations of load versus efficiency are:
- y = -2.031x2 + 22.96x + 3.531 (R² = 1) at ambient temperature = 25°C
- y = -2.018x2 - 22.97x + 3.048 (R² = 1) at ambient temperature = 30°C
- y = -1.921x2 - 22.33x + 3.051 (R² = 1) at ambient temperature = 40°C
