Shusaku.
ABSTRACTThis thesis examines Japan‟s reception towards Christianity during World War II
which represented on Shusaku Endo‟s novel, Kiiroi Hito. By using narrative and
intertextuality approach I found that Kiiroi Hito reveals the differences in
Christianity between Japan and West. It also reveals that Endo appeared as two
characters‟ parallelism and whose spiritualities are different to each other.
Analysis on Kiiroi Hito‟s Intertextuality reveals that the religion syncretization in
the novel is influenced by Japan‟s political condition in WWII and it is relevant
with historical facts and Endo‟s background., This thesis examines Japan‟s reception towards Christianity during World War II
