Tesis ini membahas proses mobilitas sosial petani plasma dan faktor-faktorpendukung dan penghambatnya. Penelitian mempergunakan pendekatan kualitatifdengan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan muncul fenomenamobilitas sosial dari petani plasma dari dimensi okupasi atau pekerjaan, konsumsi,kelas sosial, dan kekuasaan melalui beragam saluran mobilitas. Namun dimensidimensimobilitas yang dicapai tampaknya belum berhasil mengangkat masyarakatdesa secara signifikan, disebabkan karena saluran mobilitas yang dominan digunakanhanya menyentuh ranah pada level pemberdayaan individu, sehingga perkembangantidak menjadi gejala komunal.

ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses about the progress of plasma farmers social mobilitywith the supporting and inhibiting factors. The research use qualitative approach withcase of study. The result of this research showed the emerging of social mobilityphenomenon of the farmers from their dimension of occupational or employment,consumption, social level, and ascendancy through various channels of mobility.However, the mobility dimensions that already achieved seem has not succeeded topromote the villagers significantly, due to the channel of mobility which is dominantused only touches the realm level of individual empowerment, so that itsdevelopment does not become communal symptoms, This thesis discusses about the progress of plasma farmers social mobilitywith the supporting and inhibiting factors.
