Simone de Beauvoir melihat terdapat dualitas seksual dalam masyarakat yang menjadikan perempuan sebagai gender kedua. Laki-laki dianggap sebagai makhluk yang lebih tinggi daripada perempuan, bahkan hanya laki-laki yang disebut sebagai human sedangkan perempuan menjadi liyan. Dalam cerpen Le Vengeur karya Guy de Maupassant ini, dualitas seksual dapat terlihat melalui tokoh Leuillet dan Mathilde. Penelitian pada cerpen ini menggunakan pendekatan struktural dari Roland Barthes. Dualitas seksual dapat dilihat melalui analisis sintagmatik dan analisis semantik naratif. Melalui cerpen, perbedaan peran laki-laki dan perempuan dapat dilihat melalui tokoh Leuillet yang menjadi penggerak utama cerita, sedangkan Mathilde hanya berperan sebagai pendukung cerita. Tokoh Mathilde ada jika tokoh Leuillet menggerakkan cerita, dan tokoh Mathilde tidak dapat muncul di awal dengan sendirinya. Penelitian ini akan menunjukkan terdapat dualitas seksual dalam cerpen, bahwa laki-laki selalu yang menjadi tokoh penggerak dan aktif, sedangkan perempuan hanya bisa menjadi penunggu dan pasif.ABSTRACT Simone de Beauvoir notices there is sexual duality in a society where women are seen as the second gender.
