ABSTRAKIndonesia dan Jepang sepakat membentuk kerjasama Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) pada tanggal 13 Juli 2008 dengan mengikutsertakan sektor otomotif. Hal ini mengundang pertanyaan karena Indonesia tidak memiliki keunggulan komparatif seperti infrastruktur memadai, tenaga kerja terampil, dan teknologi yang dapat bersaing dengan negara lain. Melalui penelaahan terhadap konsep FTA, trickle down, dan spillover effect, didukung wawancara dengan beberapa institusi, ditemukan bahwa Indonesia menginginkan investasi dan penurunan tarif, peningkatan bargaining power, perluasan akses pasar, serta transfer teknologi. Kelima hal tersebut menjadi alasan yang mendasari disepakatinya sektor otomotif dalam kerjasama IJEPA. Sektor otomotif Indoesia juga memiliki nilai strategis dan berpotensi sebagai pasar otomotif terbesar di kawasan Asia Tenggara sehingga Jepang pun berniat menjalin kerjasama otomotif dengan Indonesia.
ABSTRACTIndonesia and Japan agreed to establish a bilateral cooperation called an Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) on July 13 2008 that include automotive sector. But it had problems, because Indonesia did not have a comparative advantage such as adequate infrastructure, skilled labor, and technology that can compete with other countries. That's why, this research use FTA, trickle down, spillover effect cncept, and backep up interview with several institutions to analyse problem it. There are five reasons of the Government of Indonesia to agree on automotive sector in IJEPA like Indonesia wants investment and tariff reduction, increased bargaining power, expanding market, as well as technology transferr. Indonesia automotive sector also has strategic value and potential as the largest automotive market in Southeast Asia. Because of that, Japan joins in automotive cooperation with Indonesia.
