 Abstract

This undergraduate-thesis analyzes about Occupy Wall Street's (OWS) role as counter hegemony struggle on challenging the United States ruling class?s hegemony in 2011-2014. The OWS phenomenon is analyzed with Gramsci's concept of counter hegemony?s political struggles. OWS emerged in 2011 due to organic crisis in neoliberalism hegemony, which happened in 2008. There were two political struggles that they did to organize people?s consciousness, war of maneuver and war of position. This research finds that OWS did organized people?s consciousness and created hegemonic terrain within civil society through political struggles. They emphasized on promoting different values against the ruling class? values, in this case neoliberal's value.
