Structural transformation in non fisheries sectors could increase the conversion of brackish land for non fisheries. this article discusses factors affecting conversion of brackish land in east java province from marco perspective using spatial approach . the 2001 census data were used and analyzed using box-cox non-linier regression model.result showed that from spatial (areas) approach. factors affected the conversion of brackish land in the east java include development of city areas that significantly influenced proportion of fisheries sector employment on total of employment , rate of urbanization and rate of population growth . the results show that economic growth tend to centralize along certain areas and sectors outside fisheries sectors. special policy provided incentives is needed to retain the brackish farmer in hitterland to retain in fisheries sector.
