ABSTRAKIndonesia memiliki wilayah yang luas dengan kondisi geografis yang memiliki banyak pegunungan dan terdiri dari kepulauan. Hal tersebut mengakibatkan mahalnya pembangunan jaringan listrik yang pada daerah-daerah terpencil di Indonesia. Namun pada sisi lain karakteristik geografis pegunungan dan perbukitan ini memberikan potensi sumber daya energi dari tinggi jatuh air. Oleh karena itu, pembangkit listrik tenaga turbin air pikohidro (< 5kW) dapat menjadi solusi untuk daerah ? daerah terpencil. Pada pembangkitan listrik tenaga air, jenis turbin yang digunakan harus disesuaikan dengan kondisi tinggi jatuh air dan debit aliran untuk mendapatkan jenis turbin yang sesuai dengan efisiensi daya maksimal. Turbin Pelton merupakan jenis turbin air yang memiliki efisiensi maksimum jika tinggi jatuh air lebih dari 30 meter. Makalah ini akan membahas tentang perhitungan teoritis dan eksperimen terhadap efisiensi turbin Pelton pada kondisi tinggi jatuh rendah kurang dari 10 meter. Dipilih tinggi jatuh 7,5 meter dan debit aliran sebesar 0,0015 m3/s . Dari hasil perhitungan teoritis didapatkan efisiensi sebesar 15,44% dan dari hasil eksperimen didapatkan efisiensi sebesar 10,02%. Perbedaan hasil efisiensi diduga akibat adanya energy losses yang disebabkan oleh gesekan pada bearing dan kehilangan energi berupa heat losses pada prony brake.

ABSTRAKIndonesia has wide territory with geographical conditions has many mountains and consists of islands. This causes the high cost of power grid construction that resulted in the rural regions did not electrified. However, the geographical characteristics of mountains and hills provide potential water energy resources. Therefore, picohydro (< 5kW) water power plant turbines can be a solution for rural regions electricity. In the hydroelectric power generation, the type of turbine used must be comply to conditions of high water fall and flow rates to get the most suitable type of turbine with maximum power efficiency. Pelton turbine is a type of water turbine which has a high maximum efficiency if the water head more than 30 meters. This paper will discuss the theoretical calculations and experiments on Pelton turbine efficiency in lowhead conditions less than 10 meters. With head of 7.5 meters and flow rate of 0.0015 m3/s. From theoretical calculation the efficiency result 15,44% and from experimental the efficiency result 10,02% . The difference efficiency results may be due to the energy losses caused by friction in the bearing and losing energy in the form of heat losses in prony brake.
