ABSTRAKSkripsi ini mengenai bagaimana connectionism dapat digunakan untuk menjelaskan variasi model budaya para santri Pondok Pesantren Al-Idrus Lebak, Banten dalam proses belajar mereka untuk memahami teks kitab kuning. Belajar teks kitab kuning yang bertuliskan huruf gundul, akan menimbulkan kemungkinan perbedaan pemahaman antara santri dengan ustad melalui trial and error. Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan teknik participant observation dan indepth interview. Deskripsi awal, menyebut bahwa terdapat tahapan proses belajar santri untuk pencapaian kata ?paham? mengenai teks kitab kuning, serta dalam proses belajar santri menggunakan mnemonic devices atau alat bantu pengingat. Kemudian, alat bantu pengingat ini semakin dirangsang oleh lingkungan struktur ekstrapersonal. Struktur ekstrapersonal tersebut mendiktekan terjadinya variasi model budaya.

ABSTRAKThis thesis is about how connectionism can be used to explain the variations of cultural model of students in Islamic Boarding School Al-Idrus Lebak, Banten in their learning process to understand the kitab kuning text. Learning thekitab kuning which is writtenS without diacritics will possibly cause differences in understanding between the students and the teacher, through ?trial and error?. This thesis uses qualitative method through data collecting technique by participant observation and indepth interview. The first explanation tells us that there are some stages in the learning process of the students to ?understand? the kitab kuning. Also, the students used mnemonic devices in the learning process. Then, thedevices arestimulated constantly by extrapersonal structure of environment. The extrapersonal structure dictates the variations of cultural models.
