 Abstract

Most patients in critical condition or that experienced cardiac arrest showed at least one abnormal clinical signs in 6-8 hours before the events. Health care providers? characteristic is one of several factors that influences in-hospital patients mortality. Nurses? knowledge affects their ability to recognize the deteriorating patients.
This research is a correlation study with cross-sectional method to identify the relationship between nurses? characteristics, which are age, gender, level of education, word duration, workload and experience in training and attending workshop, with level of knowledge on Early Warning Score. 110 nurses were selected by total sampling.
The results showed most nurses have enough knowledge (66,7%) and there is relationship between gender with level of knowledge (p = 0,009; CI = 95%; α = 0,05). Next researches are expected to identify the other factors that affect the effectiveness of Early Warning Score implementation. Training and evaluation should be conducted to improve nurses knowledge. Early Warning Score should be introduced to students in nursing schools.
