I looked down at Hye-ja casually, and suddenly I felt goosebumps across my neck."What kind of flowers are these?" I asked. "I don't know."I suddenly remembered something chilling as I watched Hye-ja scurry around and as that nameless flower bloomed from the tip of her tiny rubber shoes. Even before this memory could fully take shape, though, Hye-ja said in a low voice, "Grandma said... my mom, you know, she just died!"I said nothing. Then, I reached down and hugged Hye-ja abruptly. I stared blankly in the direction of Hye-ja's shack through the shroud of descending snow.
