Banyak penduduk yang tinggal di dataran tinggi mengalami keadaan hipobarik hipoksia intermiten IHH . Kondisi tersebut bahkan diciptakan sedemikian rupa untuk pelatihan pilot, atlit dan pendaki gunung. Dalam percobaan ini, akan dilihat apakah efek perlindungan IHH dimediasi oleh enzim glutathione peroksidase GPX . Sampel percobaan adalah ginjal tikus Sprague-Dawley sehat usia 2 bulan dengan berat 200-250 g. Perlakuan IHH diterapkan dengan menggunakan Hypobaric Chamber tipe I yang dapat mengondisikan tekanan udara seperti pada ketinggian 35,000 1 menit ; 30,000 3 menit ; 25,000 5 menit ; dan 18,000 30 menit kaki. Tikus dibagi dalam lima kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok kontrol, kelompok hipobarik-hipoksia, dan kelompok hipobarik-hipoksia intermiten 1x, 2x, dan 3x dengan jumlah tikus masing-masing 3 ekor/kelompok. Aktivitas spesifik GPX diukur menggunakan metode RANDOX dan RANSEL. Analisa statistik ANOVA-one way menunjukkan tidak terjadi perbedaan yang signifikan antar kelompok P>0.05 walaupun aktivitas spesifik GPX ginjal tikus pada kelompok dengan perlakuan hipobarik hipoksia lebih tinggi dibanding kelompok kontrol. Hal ini kemungkinan terjadi karena aktivitas antioksidan lain. Kesimpulan penelitian penerapan IHH tidak mempengaruhi aktivitas GPX pada ginjal tikus.

Many people live in high altitude experiencing a condition called intermittent hypobaric hypoxia IHH . Some people even create IHH condition as an exercise for pilot, athletes, and mountaineers. In this experiment, we wanted to see whether the protective effect of IHH is mediated through glutathione peroxidase GPX enzyme. The experiment rsquo s sample is 2 months old healthy Sprague Dawley rat rsquo s kidney weighing 200 250 g. Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia treatment is done by using Hypobaric Chamber type I that can mimic air pressure at certain altitudes 35,000 1 minute 30,000 3 minutes 25,000 5 minutes and 18,000 30 minutes feet. The rats were divided into five treatment groups such as control group, hypobaric hypoxia group, and intermittent hypobaric hypoxia 1x, 2x, and 3x groups with each group consisting of 3 rats. The specific activity of GPX was measured using RANDOX and RANSEL methods. Statistical analysis of one way ANOVA did not show significant difference between the groups P 0.05 even though specific activities of renal GPX of rats exposed to hypobaric hypoxia were higher compared to the control group. This may be caused by the other antioxidants rsquo activities. In conclusion, the IHH treatment did not affect GPX activity in rat rsquo s kidney.
