ABSTRAK
Media Britania Raya telah menjadikan hooliganisme sebagai sisi negatif dari budaya penggemar sepak bola Inggris selama bertahun-tahun melalui penggambaran hooligan sebagai orang-orang yang brutal. Di samping itu, penggambaran ini dipertahankan oleh karya sastra mengenai hooligan yang muncul sejak tahun 1990-an. Walaupun demikian, ada beberapa karya sastra hooligan yang menjadi pengecualian, seperti novel The Football Factory yang mematahkan stereotipe-stereotipe mengenai hooligan. The Football Factory kemudian diadaptasi oleh Vertigo Films dan Rockstar Studio ke dalam film yang mengagungkan stereotipe-stereotipe mengenai hooligan. Karya sastra hooligan memainkan peran penting sebagai cara pandang alternatif dalam memahami hooliganisme, tetapi belum banyak jurnal-jurnal akademis yang membahas hal ini. Studi ini mencoba untuk meneliti proses adaptasi The Football Factory dari novel ke film dengan menggunakan analisis tekstual dengan membandingkan kedua teks dalam kerangka teori adaptasi oleh Hutcheon. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari tahu bagaimana film tersebut mengagungkan stereotipe-stereotipe mengenai hooliganisme, yang bertolak belakang dengan versi novelnya, berdasarkan elemen-elemen film, ideologi pencipta, dan perubahan pada plot dalam film The Football Factory.
ABSTRACT
The British media has portrayed hooliganism as the negative side of English soccer fan culture over the years through the stereotype of the hooligan as brutish people. Furthermore, this portrayal is maintained by the hooligan literature that has emerged since the 1990s. However, there have been exceptions in the hooligan literature genre, such as the novel The Football Factory which debunks the stereotypes of the hooligan. Later, Vertigo Films and Rockstar Studios adapted The Football Factory into a film that glorifies the stereotypes regarding the hooligan. Hooligan literature plays an important role as an alternative perspective to understand hooliganism, yet it has not been adequately discussed in academic journals. This study attempts to examine the adaptation of the novel to the film by using a textual analysis by comparing both texts under the framework of Hutcheon rsquo s adaptation theory. This research aims to find how the film, contrary to the novel, glorifies stereotyped hooliganism based on the film elements, the ideology of the creators and the alteration of the plot in the film adaptation of The Football Factory.
