Penelitian ini mencoba untuk mencari penyebab turunnya jumlah penonton film horor Indonesia yang terjadi dari tahun 2010 sampai 2015 dari sudut pandang pelaku industri sekaligus penonton. Penelitian mengenai film horor Indonesia sering dikaji dari sisi konten atau penonton, sementarapenelitian ini secara komprehensif mengkaji film horor Indonesia pada empat sektor yang menjadi sistem penghidup industri film yakni produksi, distribusi, eksebisi, dan konsumsi. Tiga film horor Indonesia, Badoet, Déjàvu: Ajian Puter Giling, dan Midnight Show menjadi objek penelitian untuk menggambarkan penyebab penurunan penonton film horor Indonesia keseluruhan. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa penyebabturunnya jumlah penonton film horor Indonesia tidak hanya sekedar faktor penonton di sektor konsumsi yang enggan membeli tiket, tapi ada bebera faktor lain yang mempengaruhi. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan paradigma interpretatif. Dengan metode tersebut, penelitian ini melihat secara komprehensif dan lebih dalam permasalahan film horor Indonesia dalam konteks makro serta mikro.

This research tried to find the reasons of Indonesia horror film audience drop at 2010-2015 from the industry and audience perspective. Researches about Indonesia horror film have been done in content or audience side. Yet, this research will be seen Indonesia horror film in a wider side, which are production, distribution, exhibition, and consumption at once. Three Indonesia horror movie, Badoet, Déjàvu: Ajian Puter Giling, and Midnight Show became research?s object to illustrated the cause of why Indonesia Horror Movie have audience drop in these recent years. This research finds that the cause of audience drop is not only from the consumption factor, but from other factors too that responsible. This research uses a qualitative method and interpretative paradigm. That method allowed this research to see the phenomena comprehensively and deep of Indonesia horror film problems, either in macro and micro.
