Dalam Eksistensialisme, manusia digerakan oleh pilihan-pilihan atas kehendaknya. Gabriel Marcel menjelaskan bagaimana pilihan-pilihan itu selalu berada dalam dua tatanan, yaitu being dan having. Dalam being, pilihan-pilihan yang diambil dapat membentuk sebuah cinta kasih, sementara having hanya untuk melihat yang lain sebatas fungsi. Adanya harapan di dalam diri manusia membedakan dua tatanan tersebut. Harapan itu muncul dalam suatu relasi intersubjektivitas. Harapan untuk terlibat dalam kebersamaan, kebersalingan, dan cinta, bukan hanya pemenuhan hasrat. Harapan mampu menghidupi relasi cinta sebagai sebuah misteri, bukan bentuk problem yang perlu diselesaikan. Skripsi ini menggunakan pemikiran Marcel sebagai pisau untuk membedah film One Day, terutama mengenai perjalanan Emma dan Dexter yang merepresentasikan suatu relasi intersubjektivitas mengenai cinta dan harapan dalam menuju eksistensinya.

In Existentialism, individual rsquo s driven by the choices of her will. Gabriel Marcel explains how those choices are always existing in two states, those are being and having. In state of being, the choices that was made can form love, while in the state of having, the choices are only seeing the other limited functions. Hope differs these to state. This hope appears in an intersubjectivity relation. The hope to engage in togetherness, involvement, and love, not just the fulfillment of desire. Hope could sustain a loving relationship as a mystery, not a form of problem that need to be resolved. This undergraduate thesis used Marcel thought of as a tool to dissect the movie lsquo One Day rsquo , especially in the story of Emma and Dexter which represents an intersubjectivity relation about love and hope in towards existence.
