Peningkatan stabilitas oksidasi biodiesel minyak kelapa dengan aditif antoksidan pyrogallol (py) = Enchacement oxidation stability coconut oil biodiesel with oxidation additive pyrogallol (py)

 Abstract

Indonesia yang kaya dengan kelapa menjadikan minyak kelapa memiliki potensi besar untuk diajdikan bahan baku pembuatan biodiesel. Namun, biodiesel dari minyak kelapa dari minyak kelapa memiliki stabilitas oksidasi yang rendah, sehingga tidak dapat memenuhi spesifikasi biodiesel yang disyaratkan pada SNI 7182-2015 yaitu minimal 480 menit dengan metode rancimat. Pada penelitian ini, biodiesel yang disintesis dengan bahan baku minyak kelapa melalui proses transesterifikasi dilakukan penambahan anti oksidan yaitu pyrogallol dengan rentang konsentrasi 500 ndash; 2000 ppm serta periode pengamatan 1 ndash; 4 minggu. Pyrogallol digunakan karena memiliki efektifitas yang tinggi untuk meningkatkan kestabilan oksidasi biodiesel yang dapat menurun seiring berjalannya waktu. Kualitas kestabilan biodiesel diamati dengan dilakukannya pengujian densitas, angka asam, stabilitas oksidasi, angka iodium, viskositas kinematik, dan intensitas warna. Penambahan antioksidan pyrogallol minimal 500 ppm sudah mampu menaikkan menjadi 2880 menit yang merupakan kestabilan oksidasi maksimum.

Indonesia rsquo s rich in coconut causing coconut oil has great potential to be used as raw material for making biodiesel. However, biodiesel from coconut oil has low oxidation stability so it cant rsquo t meet the biodiesel specifiaction required on SNI 7182 2015 which is at least 480 minutes using rancimat method. In this research, biodiesel is synthesized with coconut oil as ram material through transesterificaion process is done by addition of pyrogallol as antioxidant with concentration range 500 ndash 2000 ppm and observation period 1 ndash 4 weeks. Pyrogallol is used because it has high effectiveness to increase the oxidation stability of biodiesel that can decrease over time. The quality of biodiesel stability is observed by testing density, acid number, oxidation stability, iodine number, viscosity, and color intensity. The result showed addition of pyrogallol minimum 500 ppm can increase oxidation stability into 2880 minutes which is maximum limit.
