Penelitian sebelumnya telah membuktikan bahwa terdapat pengaruh penggunaan teknik netralisasi terhadap perilaku ketidakjujuran akademik, dimana semakin digunakannya teknik netralisasi, semakin banyak dilakukan ketidakjujuran akademik oleh mahasiswa. Penelitian ini lebih memfokuskan pada perilaku ketidakjujuran akademik yang lebih spesifik yaitu plagiarisme dan mencoba untuk mengaitkannya dengan teknik netralisasi milik Sykes dan Matza 1957 yang terdiri dari denial of responsibility, denial of injury, denial of victim, condemnation of condemner, dan appeal to higher loyalties. Tidak hanya menggunakan 5 teknik asal, namun juga menambahkan 4 teknik baru yaitu: metaphor of ledgers, claim of normality, denial of negative intent, dan claim of relative acceptability. Penelitian ini berusaha untuk menguji 9 teknik netralisasi untuk menjelaskan perilaku plagiarisme di kalangan mahasiswa sarjana Fakultas Y Universitas X. Melalui temuan penelitian didapatkan bahwa semakin tinggi penggunaan teknik netralisasi maka semakin tinggi pula perilaku plagiarisme mahasiswa sarjana Fakultas Y Universitas X. Kesembilan teknik juga terbukti memiliki pengaruh terhadap perilaku plagiarisme.

Previous research have proved that there is an influence of the use of neutralization techniques to academic dishonesty behavior, the more the students use techniques of neutralization, the more academic dishonesty has been done. This study focuses more on the specific academic dishonesty behavior that is plagiarism and tries to relate it to the of neutralization from Sykes and Matza 1957 that consist of denial of responsibility, denial of injury, denial of victim, condemnation of condemner, and appeal to higher loyalties. Not only using the 5 original techniques, but we also added 4 new techniques that is metaphor of ledgers, claim of normality, denial of negative intent, and claim of relative acceptability. The study also attempted to use 9 neutralization techniques to explain plagiarism behavior. Through the research, it found that the higher the use of neutralization techniques, the higher the plagiarism behavior of undergraduate students of Faculty Y University X. All 9 techniques also proven to have influence on plagiarism behavior.
