ABSTRACTDrying clothes by hanging them outside is commonly found in tropical countries, such as in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, because of the abundant supplies of direct sunlight. However, many neighborhoods regulate the practice of hanging clothes outside, since it is often viewed as polluting the neighborhood rsquo s visualization. In populated places, like Jakarta, drying clothes by hanging them outside is also practiced due to a limited space. This undergraduate thesis aims to research about the relation between laundry practice and architectural aesthetics, which uses a methodology of observation and interview that took place in Kampung and Rusun in Jakarta. Investigation of case studies discovers a new discussion about domestic laundry practices that is vital to architectural aesthetics.
