ABSTRAKFilm berjudul Mean Girls menceritakan tentang sekelompok anak elit yang populer namun cenderung mengintimidasi dengan gaya hidup mereka yang matrealistis. Dengan hadir sebagai anak-anak yang populer, cantik, dan keren membuat mereka menjadi sebuah panutan untuk anak-anak perempuan lain di sekolah walaupun dengan sikap mereka yang mengintimidasi orang lain yang tidak sebanding. Hal ini pun menguatkan dominasi mereka dan menghadirkan hegemoni. Bagaimana hegemoni itu bisa hadir dan dipertahankan menjadi fokus dalam penelitian ini. Konsep sosial Bourdieu digunakan untuk melihat bagaimana kelompok elit ini bisa mendominasi suatu lingkungan dan bertahan di posisi tertinggi. Dalam penelitian ini akan diperlihatkan bagaimana sebuah hegemoni dapat terbentuk dan juga hancur pada akhirnya. Penelitian ini berkontribusi untuk merepresentasikan sekelompok perempuan yang membuli dengan memberikan pengetahuan untuk memahami bagaimana tindakan membuli dapat muncul dan bagaimana bullying beroperasi di lingkungan sosial.

ABSTRACT/>The film Mean Girls portrays an elite clique who controls anyone in the entire school with its materialistic lifestyle attraction. This elite clique actually gets popular with the help of support from its peers. The society supports them, for they bring the ideal pictured of cool high schoolers and people are envied them. Therefore, it can maintain its hegemonic position. The strategies to build and sustain the hegemony is the focus of this study. Bourdieu rsquo s concept of social capital is used to show how the clique achieves their power, and make them stay on top. The finding reveals the construction as well as the destruction of this hegemonic elite depends on the agency of its own member. This study contributes to the scarce literature on representations of female bullies, providing a framework for understanding why bullying persists and how it operates within the society.
