Hubungan antara motivasi membaca dengan keterampilan pemahaman bacaan pada siswa SD yang kurang beruntung = The Relationship between reading motivation and reading literacy among underprivileged elementary students

ABSTRAK
Keterampilan pemahaman bacaan dapat dipengaruhi oleh sejumlah faktor, di antaranya yaitu status sosioekonomi keluarga dan motivasi membaca Guthrie, Schafer, Huang, 2001; Becker, McElvany, Kortenbruck, 2010 . Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara motivasi membaca intrinsik dan ekstrinsik dengan keterampilan pemahaman bacaan pada tingkat kognitif dan metakognitif pada siswa SD yang tinggal di lingkungan kurang menguntungkan. Penelitian cross-sectional ini melibatkan sebanyak 30 siswa kelas 3 SDN Sukodadi 02 Kabupaten Malang, Jawa Timur sebagai responden. Motivasi membaca intrinsik dan ekstrinsik siswa diukur menggunakan alat ukur Reading Motivation, sedangkan keterampilan pemahaman bacaan pada tingkat kognitif dan metakognitif diukur menggunakan alat ukur Reading Assessment dan alat ukur Think-Aloud. Hasil berdasarkan analisis partial correlation menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara motivasi membaca ekstrinsik siswa dengan keterampilan pemahaman bacaan pada tingkat kognitif, dengan mengontrol inteligensi. Sementara itu, tidak ditemukan korelasi antara motivasi membaca intrinsik dengan keterampilan pemahaman bacaan tingkat kognitif, serta antara motivasi membaca dengan keterampilan pemahaman bacaan tingkat metakognitif.

ABSTRACT
Reading literacy can be influenced by a number of factors, including the socio economic conditions of the family and reading motivation Guthrie, Schafer, Huang, 2001 Becker, McElvany, Kortenbruck, 2010 . The objective of this paper is to examine how intrinsic and extrinsic reading motivation related to reading literacy in cognitive and metacognitive level among students who lived in impoverished settings. A total of 30 third grade students from SDN Sukodadi 02 in Malang Regency, East Java participated in this cross sectional study. Students rsquo intrinsic and extrinsic motivation were measured using Reading Motivation questionnaire, meanwhile students rsquo reading literacy in cognitive and metacognitive level were measured using Reading Assessment instrument and Think Aloud procedure. Results from partial correlation analyses showed that there is a relationship between students rsquo extrinsic motivation and students rsquo reading literacy in cognitive level even when intelligence was controlled. However, relationship between other variables were not found.
