Anak-anak dengan osteogenesis imperfecta OI diketahui memiliki performa sekolah yang kurang baik dibandingkan teman sebayanya yang normal. Salah satu faktor yang berperan dalam performa sekolah adalah fungsi intelektual. Pada OI tipe letal atau OI dengan tingkat keparahan sangat tinggi, seringkali ditemukan komplikasi neurologis yang mungkin memengaruhi fungsi intelektual anak. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan keparahan klinis osteogenesis imperfecta dengan fungsi intelektual pasien usia 5-12 tahun. Studi ini menggunakan studi potong lintang dengan 20 subjek. Keparahan klinis subjek dinilai menggunakan Clinical Scoring System CSS untuk OI. Kemudian, subjek diperiksa oleh psikolog berlisensi menggunakan instrumen Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children WISC untuk mengetahui skor Full Scale Intelligence Quotient FSIQ sebagai indikator fungsi intelektual anak. Menggunakan uji Pearson satu arah, didapatkan korelasi keparahan klinis OI dengan fungsi intelektual pasien dengan nilai p=0,005 dan nilai r=-0,56. Selain itu, diketahui juga rerata IQ pada penelitian ini adalah 90,40 SD 4,85 dengan proporsi IQ terbesar pada pasien penelitian ini adalah kelompok pasien dengan IQ 91-110 yang dikategorikan sebagai kelompok dengan taraf kecerdasan rata-rata. Dalam penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa semakin tinggi keparahan klinis OI, semakin rendah fungsi intelektual. Namun, fungsi intelektual ini bukan merupakan satu-satunya faktor dalam menentukan performa sekolah anak. Minat dan motivasi anak, kondisi dan pola belajar anak di rumah, serta keterlibatan orang tua juga dapat mempengaruhi performa sekolah pada anak OI. Children with osteogenesis imperfecta OI are often associated with poor school performance compared to their healthy peers. One of the key factors in determining school performance is the neurodevelopmental function, specifically the intellectual function. In cases of OI with high clinical severity, neurological complications are often found. These neurological complications might affect intellectual function in children. The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between clinical severity of osteogenesis imperfecta and the intellectual function of pediatric patients aged 5 12. This study is a cross sectional study with subject of 20 pediatric patients having diagnosed with OI. Subjects who meet the inclusion criteria and do not have the exclusion criteria were selected randomly and assessed using Clinical Scoring System CSS in order to determine their clinical severity. Subjects were then examined by blinded, licensed psychologist using Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children WISC to get the IQ score as a determinant of their intellectual function. Using one tailed Pearson correlation test, correlation between clinical severity of OI and patients rsquo intellectual function is significant at p 0.005 and r 0.56. Results also show that the IQ proportion within subjects are highest in the group of patients with IQ score ranged from 91 to 110 which is categorized as average intelligence with the average IQ score of all subjects is 90.40 SD 4.85 . In conclusion, there is a moderate, negative correlation between the clinical severity of OI and the intellectual function of pediatric patients aged 5 12. However, a child rsquo s interests and motivation, study habits, and parents rsquo involvement also have roles in determining school performance in children with OI.
