ABSTRAK
Mahasiswa Departemen Matematika FMIPA UI sebagai salah satu kader masa depan dan agen pembawa perubahan, dituntut untuk memiliki tanggung jawab dalam bertingkah laku sesuai dengan norma masyarakat, berintelektual tinggi, dapat memberikan contoh yang baik pada masyarakat, dan memiliki rasa empati yang tinggi. Masyarakat dan lingkungan di mana mahasiswa tersebut kuliah memiliki harapan yang tinggi terhadap mahasiswa sehingga rasa empati diharapkan dapat tumbuh dan berkembang optimal pada mahasiswa. Dalam penelitian ini, akan dilihat faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi tingkat empati mahasiswa Departemen Matematika FMIPA UI dan pengaruh pola asuh dan jenis kelamin terhadap dimensi empati. Data diperoleh dengan penyebaran kuisioner kepada 170 mahasiswa Departemen Matematika FMIPA UI yang telah terpilih sebagai sampel. Metode pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu simple random sampling. Metode analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Cluster K-Means, Partial Least Square PLS, Uji Kruskal-Wallis, dan Uji Mann-Whitney. Faktor yang paling memengaruhi tingkat empati adalah fantasy, yaitu kemampuan seseorang untuk mengidentifikasi dengan kuat karakter fiktif dalam buku, film, atau drama. Selain itu, faktor-faktor lain yang memengaruhi tingkat empati mahasiswa Departemen Matematika FMIPA UI adalah perspective taking, empathic concern, personal distress, pola asuh orangtua, dan jenis kelamin.

ABSTRACT
Mathematics students of FMIPA UI as one of the future cadres and agents of change, are required to have responsibility in behaving accordance to the society norms, highly intellectual, set a good example to the society, and have a high sense of empathy. The society and the college which they study have a high expectation towards them, so it is hoped that the empathy could grow and develop optimally. This study is aimed to identify factors that affect the empathy level of Mathematics FMIPA UI students, and the affect of parenting styles and gender towards the empathy dimension. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires to 170 mathematics students of FMIPA UI who have been selected as sample. The sampling method will be used in this study is simple random sampling. The method that will be used in this study are Cluster K Means, Partial Least Square PLS , Kruskal Wallis test, and Mann Whitney test. The factor that give the most affect on Mathematics FMIPA UI students rsquo s empathy level is fantasy. Fantasy is a tendency of the respondent to identify strongly with fictitious characters in books, movies, or dramas. Other factors that affect empathy level of Mathematics FMIPA UI students are perspective taking, empathic concern, personal distress, parenting patterns, and gender.
