ABSTRAK
Skripsi ini membahas dan menganalisa makna sakura dalam cerpen Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita 1947 karya Sakaguchi Ango. Dengan mengungkapkan juga latar belakang sosial, budaya dan historis yang terjadi di kehidupan pengarang yang mempengaruhi penggambaran makna sakura dalam cerpen tersebut. Bunga sakura yang kerap diidentikkan dengan keindahan dan sukacita memiliki gambaran yang sangat berbeda pada cerpen Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita. Dalam cerpen ini bunga sakura digambarkan keberadaannya yang menyeramkan dan menakutkan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra, data-data berupa biografi pengarang, karya dan tulisan lain pengarang, serta latar belakang sosial, budaya dan historis dianalisis, kemudian ditemukan dua makna bunga sakura dalam karya ini. Makna pertama, sakura sebagai manifestasi kesepian. Hal ini tertuang secara tersurat pada bagian akhir cerpen ini. Adapun mengenai faktor yang mempengaruhi pemaknaan bunga sakura demikian ditemukan setelah dilakukan analisis pada biografi Sakaguchi Ango serta esainya yang berjudul Bungaku no Furusato 1941 . Makna kedua, sakura sebagai simbol kematian saat perang. Ango menjelaskan latar belakang ditulisnya karya Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita dalam esainya yang berjudul Sakura no Hanazakari 1953 . Esai ini berisikan mengenai keanehan yang dirasakannya ketika melihat pohon sakura bermekaran ketika sekelilingnya hangus terbakar setelah terjadi serangan udara di Tokyo pada tahun 1945. Selain melalui esai tersebut, citra bunga sakura kerap diasosiasikan dengan tentara Jepang yang mati dalam perang ketika membela negara dan kaisar. Hal itulah yang menjadi faktor yang mempengaruhi terbentuknya makna sakura tersebut.

ABSTRACT
This thesis is focusing to discuss the meaning of cherry blossoms in Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita 1947 a short story by Sakaguchi Ango, and analyze the social, culture, and history background happened around the author which influence the depiction of the meaning of cherry blossoms in this short story. Cherry blossoms usually The cherry blossoms that are often identified with beauty and joy have a very different picture in Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita 1947 . In this short story cherry blossoms are portrayed as a creepy and terrifying existence. Using the sociology approach of literature, the data such as the author biography, his other writings, and as well as the social, cultural and historical background of Japan at the time this work was published were analyzed to the result of two meanings of cherry blossoms in this work. The first meaning is sakura as a manifestation of solitude, it is written explicitly at the end of this short story. As for the factors that influence the meaning of cherry blossoms as so found after analyzing on the biography of Sakaguchi Ango and his essay titled Bungaku no Furusato 1941 . The second meaning is the sakura as a symbol of death during the war. Ango explains the background of Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita in his essay titled Sakura no Hanazakari 1953 . This essay contains the strangeness that he felt when he saw the cherry blossom tree standing still with bloomed flowers on the branches while all the surrounding burned down after the Tokyo air attack in 1945. In addition, during the war, the image of cherry blossoms are often associated with the Japanese soldiers who died in the war. Therefore those backgrounds explained above become the factors that influences the depiction of the meaning of cherry blossoms in this story.
